Safety and labor protection

The foundation

Occupational health and safety is a whole range of measures that are developed and aimed at ensuring the safety of the health of workers at workplaces during working hours in the performance of their duties, when working with equipment. When carrying out labor protection and safety measures, the employer is always guided by the Labor Code, which describes all the regulatory and legal requirements for working conditions in the workplace.

The set of measures for labor protection and safety may vary slightly at different enterprises. This is primarily due to the industry specifics of some enterprises. But in any case, the purpose of the measures taken is to reduce the risk of injury and eliminate situations that can lead to accidents.

Occupational health and safety at the enterprise are interrelated. Safety is a complex of organizational and technical measures. It is these measures that ensure the creation of conditions for reducing the risk of injury at the enterprise. Industrial injuries are inevitable in case of non-compliance with the hygienic standards of working conditions, as well as the requirements of labor protection and safety at the workplace. Safety measures are aimed at ensuring, for example, good lighting and ventilation of production facilities, and controlling the temperature in the premises.

Persons responsible for compliance with safety regulations must conduct health and safety briefings throughout the enterprise, as well as directly at the workplace, where this is required by the equipment used. One of the mandatory requirements of labor protection and safety at the enterprise is the visualization of the most dangerous areas of production and measures to prevent industrial injuries. As a rule, for this purpose, posters and visual aids are hung in the workplace.

Terminology

Safety is a type of activity (a system of organizational and technical measures, protective equipment and methods) to ensure the safety of any human activity, including labor activity. Previously, under the same name, the science, the subject of which is this type of activity, also acted, and now the discipline of syndinics is developing with a wider range of subject areas, absorbing the subject of the science of safety engineering.

An obsolete term that referred to part of the function of “occupational safety” – the management of industrial activities aimed at preventing injuries and diseases associated with work. Currently, it is practically not used and is not found in official documents.

“Safety”, on the contrary, means a set of requirements for the behavior of workers and the performance of their work function, aimed at preventing dangerous situations for the life and health of both the workers themselves and their environment. In the terminology of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the analogue of the concept of “safety” is the concept of “safe working methods and techniques”. However, the content of this phrase in labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts is not disclosed.

The organization shall establish methods to demonstrate that the worker has appropriate knowledge of:

  • Obligations of the employee in the field of labor protection in accordance with applicable law
  • The actual or potential consequences of its activities on occupational safety
  • Understanding the responsibility for the compliance of his actions with the organization’s policy in the field of labor protection, safety requirements, labor protection management system, including the actions of the employee in emergency situations
  • Possible consequences of non-compliance with technological instructions.
